Campaign 2020 Media Dashboard


In collaboration with the Internet Archive's Television News Archive and using GDELT's worldwide online news monitoring, the dashboard below tracks mentions of the 2020 US presidential candidates on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News national television news, the evening news broadcasts of ABC, CBS and NBC and worldwide online news coverage in 65 languages. The Republican field is represented by incumbent Donald Trump and the Democratic field is represented by the 20 candidates that participated in the Second Democratic Debate. Note that television results have a 24-hour rolling delay, while online coverage is updated to present. This dashboard is updated every 30 minutes.

The live dataset powering this dashboard is available for download in CSV format. Each of the graphs below can be downloaded in PNG or CSV format or embedded on your own site by clicking on the Export button at the top right of the graph. High-traffic sites should download the master CSV file every 30 minutes and use it to construct their own visualizations.

Permission is granted to use all graphs and data on this dashboard. Mentions of 2020 candidates on CNN, MSNBC and FOX News 24 hours a day 7 days a week using data from the Internet Archive's Television News Archive processed by the GDELT Project. Includes all candidate mentions in closed captioned news programming, though a small percentage of advertisements may also be counted if they are captioned. Due to the Television Archive's 24-hour rolling delay, results are updated to 24 hours ago. Network Television (Evening News)


Mentions of 2020 candidates on ABC's World News Tonight With David Muir, CBS' Evening News, Evening News With Jeff Glor and Evening News With Norah O'Donnell and NBC's Nightly News With Lester Holt using data from the Internet Archive's Television News Archive processed by the GDELT Project. Monitoring is from San Francisco affiliates KGO, KPIX and KNTV, respectively. Counts may be slightly off on some days due to affiliates repeating the evening news the following morning on certain occassions. Includes all mentions in closed captioned news programming, though a small percentage of advertisements may also be counted if they are captioned. Due to the Television Archive's 24-hour rolling delay, results are updated to 24 hours ago. Worldwide Online News


Mentions of 2020 candidates in worldwide online news coverage in the 65 languages monitored by the GDELT Project. Note that no system can monitor all global media and thus these results represent best-effort results. Also note that some candidate names may not properly translate from all languages in all cases, leading to some missed results. Total seconds of airtime on CNN, MSNBC and FOX in which the onscreen chyron text mentioned a 2020 candidate, using data from the Internet Archive's Television News Archive's "Third Eye" OCR stream, reprocessed GDELT Project.
